Oprah's One Week Vegan Challenge
This week Oprah had a show called The Vegan Challenge. Three hundred and seventy eight (378) members of her staff went vegan for a week. The results:
-
Joe, the director of the Oprah show, said that he is going to continue on a vegan diet. He said he had more energy and did not have "food hang over".
-
Rich, the video editor, said by the third day he felt better than he had in 10 years.
-
A total of 444 pounds were lost, 84 pounds were gained and there were 78 quitters.
Not all Oprah staffers were sold on the vegan diet, but most reported better bowel movements and said that they will be more conscious about what they eat for now on. A few of her staff members, although not ready to commit for life, indepentedly decided to extend the diet beyond the one week challenge. I applaud them all for trying it.
One of the experts on the show, Kathy Freston (author of Veganist: Lose Weight, Get Healthy, Change the World) said when you eat vegan in week # 1 you will see a change in weight, week # 2 you will start to see positive changes in blood pressure and blood sugar level and by week #3 cholesterol levels are positively impacted. I can testify that I definitely dropped weight when I first became a vegan. I don’t know what my other numbers were before I became vegan, but I can say that the blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels are at optimal levels now. This week Veganist was the number one selling book on Amazon. In January another vegan book hit number one on Amazon, Crazy Sexy Diet: Eat Your Veggies, Ignite Your Spark, and Live Like You Mean It! by Kris Carr's. Kris Carr says that she cured her cancer with a change of diet and lifestyle approach.

Could a Vegan Diet Be a Game Changer?
Ask yourself “could a vegan diet be your game changer?” It is not as challenging as you might think. Try it, you might like. I “tried it” about nine years ago and never looked back. It was a game changer for me!
